General Meet Information
If this is the first year your child has participated in organized swimming you may find that it can be a bit confusing to you and your child.
- Each swim meet consists of 84 events, divided into age groups and specific strokes.
- The four competitive strokes are backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle.
- Events are held in all strokes at varying distances depending on the age group of the swimmer.
- In addition, there is the individual medley (IM), a combination of all four strokes.
- The order of events is:
- 6 and under free relay
- medley relay
- distance free
- 6 and under freestyle
- individual medley
- freestyle
- backstroke
- breaststroke
- butterfly
- freestyle relay

Eligibility
- There are six age group classifications:
- 6 and under (freestyle events only)
- 7-8
- 9-10
- 11-12
- 13-14
- 15-18
- Age is determined on May 31st.
- No swimmer can swim in more than 5 events.
- The more strokes a swimmer can perform legally, the more event opportunities a swimmer has.
- Your swimmer will be entered in events according to ability and team need. Due to the size of some age groups, your child may be asked to swim up against older swimmers. Swimming up is an opportunity to win points, gain valuable racing experience, improve times, and to help the team's overall score. Swimming up will only occur when a swimmer in the needed age group is not available.
